I think it would just be easier to checked out other sites , see what you like and try it on this site. From what i can see Pic comps seem to be popular at the moment with lure company's giving away prizes for best pic's of there lures in fishes mouths.
Also let people be more open with what they can and can not say.
One last thing increase size of pic's allowed on this site.

| I notice you've made the bycatch forum private? You should do the same with the fishing reports section (for bream). It will not only encourage posting reports (because of the privacy) but encourage people to log on and hence post replies more. |

Hi Jorg,
To you first point it's on its way and let me tell you it will be some very interesting and concurrent competitions running.
I have already mentions that it willl be an open and transparent site.
The size of pics is also being reviewd for future upgrades.
C&R
Goood idea, this was done on AusBass and I will limite the fishing reports to members only.
Thanks for the feedback.

| G'day all, I don't know how much it will take to do but I would like a tab on the end of a thread to take you to the last post that you read on each topic. Nice site keep up the good work. |

yes I like the active topic link all the time which take us to the latest topics but when you click on an active topic you then are left with a choice of starting at the start of the thread or going to the last post and back tracking to thelastone you read. A couple of the other bream sites have the tab and it makes life a lot easier. Another thing I think whould be cool is an in detail forum or artical on location and how to fish them as being a west coaster your water ways are totally foriegn and nothing like our systems. |

Ahh i see what you mean now Tony, yep that would be a good idea!
Not real keen on a article style reports on location, im sure structure and the way to fish the structure is the same here as in the west?

What about a recipe/cooking section for all these fishies we catch - I know C & R is important and appears to be almost main stream in the bream on lures game, but I know that I still like to bring a feed home occasionaly.

I'd be against the recipe thing personally. The message of bream sport fishing is to release them
vBulletin is the way squidders! This old software is clunky as |

| Perhaps once the site is moved to a new server it may change. Wouldn't like it looking too much like the competitors site. |

a few things off the top of my head that i think may be needed
1 - picture sizes - i use my own webfolders to store them and just link to the pics, i did not even know there was a limit of the size. this would encourage more reports. To me reports without pictures do not do the reporter, the viewer, or the site justice. as a viewer, good pics make the story. For the newbie, they can see what sort of lures, and structure was being targeted and helps in the learning process. As a sponsor who imports lures, good pics with lures in their mouths are what this is all about. Not only does it let me know that the product is working, i can see if the terminal tackle was upgraded (letting me know if possible changes should occur), but i can also learn new techniques involving my products that i did not know existed. and as a sponsor who may sell the products, it lets viewers see that the product works and they know where to get them. IMO pictures are priceless.
2 - encourage reports and questions, no matter what the species or success of the day. I have learnt many things from forums and still learn things everyday On a few sites, other species are occasionaly shown, either as bycatch or they were specifically targetted. either way it makes for interesting reading. Newbies can see different styles of how reports are put together, some like paragraghs, some dont, some just put pics, some dont.
3 - change the colours / formatt; the new ownership is known by existing members, but irregular visitors may think it is same old same old.
4. Perhaps on the front page where the articles are, have a preview of the latest posts above the articles. This is similar to the BFO website and it may encourage more people to sign up.
5. this may be controversial, but the sites with the most posts and threads seem to be ones without the chat functions. i am not saying that chat functions reduce forum particpation, but i belong to and sponsor a number of sites and and have observed this. the lack of the chat function may push people into making more posts. as i said its just an observation i have made.
6. devise ways to get people involved. (i.e i sponsor a comp on BM, i usually decide who wins, however i have since changed the format and have a poll at the end of the month and ask the members to choose. More people take part in the voting than the actual comp. But it gets people involved in having a say on how some things go)
anyway, i have dribbled on too long and repeated a few other requests. back to work for me. (Disclaimer - these are just my random thoughts ) |

I understand that your assumption is loosely based upon sites with more traffic and dont have a chat feature. I think this is one of the great features of this site, it allows members from all over the country (world?) to communicate in a virtual cafe style set up. It's a great tool, although only a handful of "regs" ever seem to use it? Personally I'd be sad to see it go. Have you noticed the Comp section on this site, you made mention of BM comps, we have some too!
